Mental Health Awareness Week – Take action to support good mental health

Read our tips on how to support your Mental Health

For Mental Health Awareness Week (11-17 May 2026), we’d like to share some simple ways you can support your mental health.

Everyone faces different challenges. When your mental health is strong, it’s easier to handle life’s ups and downs.

You can’t always control what happens, but you can choose how you respond. Building resilience and looking after yourself can support your mental health and help you feel more in control.

Here are some tips to help you look after your mental health and well-being:

Mental health support
Spend time outdoors. This could be a walk in the park, browsing the shops, sitting in your garden, or doing some gentle gardening. Being outside can lower stress, reduce anxiety, and help you feel happier and calmer.

Make sure you get enough sleep. Good sleep helps balance your emotions, improves focus, and supports your well-being. Try to create a calm, comfortable space, limit screen time before bed, wear comfy clothes, or listen to relaxing sounds.

Try gentle exercise such as walking, yoga, or swimming. These activities can lift your mood, reduce stress and anxiety, help you sleep better, and boost your self-esteem.

Eat a balanced diet with plenty of whole foods, vegetables, fruits, and healthy fats. Good nutrition can help you feel better, have more energy, and support your memory and focus.

Stay hydrated. Drinking enough water helps your brain work well, supports your mood, reduces stress, and keeps your energy up.

Build healthy relationships and friendships. Good connections can lower stress and boost your happiness. Set clear boundaries with people who cause you stress, and talk to someone you trust if you need support.
