The new over 60’s workforce

Not ready to retire? Looking to reduce your hours?

For some, the idea of retirement doesn’t fill them with joy; the thought of loneliness, social isolation and the desire to keep active are some of the many reasons people choose to continue to work, some well into their 70s and beyond.

According to Age UK, there are now over 15 million people in the UK aged 60+ and over one million of those are in either paid or voluntary work.

At Papillon Home Care, 30% of our workforce are over 60; we believe for some, staying in work for a few more years can make a significant difference not only in their income but also in their physical and mental health.

For many, they would have cared for loved ones during their life, from parents to children, and they will already have the compassionate and patient abilities that make an excellent home carer. At Papillon Home Care, through our comprehensive training program, we can provide them with the knowledge and skills to enhance their natural abilities.

What hours would I need to work?

With agency work, there is a degree of flexibility; we need to cater to our client’s care needs, but you can decide if you want to work a few evenings a week, a couple of mornings or a few full days.

What does home care work entail?

Days can be varied and very rewarding; one minute, you might be helping an older person with washing and meal preparation, next helping them access the local community centre or getting their prescriptions. Our care workforce offer a complete home care service to allow our clients to feel safe and independent within their own homes.

What are the benefits?

We offer free and full training, helping you gain skills and enhance your knowledge; our weekly pay starts from £11.98 per hour (Holiday inclusive). We also have a fantastic refer a friend scheme, so you can earn money by getting your friends on board with us.

So if you are not ready to give up work just yet, why not consider a new career in care. We believe that the older workforce has a vital part to play in the care at home sector, and we would be happy to welcome you to the Papillon Team.
