Why choose a career in care?

  • Post category:News

If there is one job that there will always be a need for, it is a job in care.

As people live longer, choose to stay within their own homes and want to remain independent, the need for home care support has been on a steady rise.

But are you really aware of what a job in home care entails?

Care work can be one of the most satisfying and the most rewarding careers. Let us explain why –

Job satisfaction – Everyone loves the feeling you get after you have helped someone. Imagine having that feeling every day? A carer is a vital part of someone’s day, from providing them with critical medication and welfare support to ensuring they are safe or supporting them with personal care to keep their dignity at home. These are just some of the ways in which carers help daily.

Varied days – Every client is different, which means every day is different. Not only are you helping people to live safely and independently within their own homes, but you will also be meeting people from all walks of life. Many will enjoy telling you tales about their past and will have lots of interesting stories to tell. For some, a carer might be the only person they see each day and that visit is not only vital, but it is what they look forward to.

Career Pathway – Zero experience is needed to become a home care support worker, most agencies can provide full training to give you the skills and knowledge you require to have a successful career in care.

But it doesn’t have to stop there. In addition to gaining healthcare qualifications, some carers go on to pursue a nursing qualification or move into the office to become a care assessor or care co-ordinator.

So whilst it is not the most glamorous job, it is a highly rewarding and vital job. So if you have a kind nature, a want to help others and an eagerness to learn, then a job in care might be your calling.

We asked our care staff why they work in care:

“I love working in home care as I enjoy helping others and making a difference to people’s lives. my job is very satisfying and rewarding. Caring for people and helping them maintain their independence within their own home environment is extremely important, it is an honour to be able to look after and help the clients we have, some who have fought for this country. To be able to give something back is a gift from my heart, I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.”

“I like the interaction that I have with the clients and knowing that I do a good job, When they have a smile on their face and when you are thanked.”

“Seeing the clients having a laugh and joke with them. Some don’t have family so we are all they have. There is real satisfaction knowing my client is safe, well and happy.”
